Anabolic Steroid and Teenagers?

Anabolic Steroid and Teenagers?

June 26, 2018

Anabolic steroids are quite popular in today’s times. Teenagers are often misled on what they do and the side effects caused by them. This article is given for informational purposes only and is intended to get the truth out about steroids. This article was written to solve any questions or mysteries some teens might have about them.

What Are They And How Do They Work: Anabolic steroids are a synthetic copy of testosterone which is a natural hormone that is produced by the testicles or the ovaries in women. Males especially have a higher testosterone production than females as this is what makes us able to grow muscle faster and easier. Many bodybuilders are often tempted to use them as they hear all of the hype on how they can increase size and strength to extraordinary levels. The way they work is they increase your testosterone levels to a level which cannot be reached naturally. This is when it causes your strength levels and weight to skyrocket.

How They Are Used: There are two ways to take anabolic steroids. The first is orally which is easy to use as it is just a pill, but the bad part is it pounds the liver. The other way to take steroids is to inject them. This has a more anabolic effect and is less damaging to the liver. Nevertheless, either one will help to increase muscle mass and increase strength.

Why Teenagers Should Stay Away From Steroids

Many teenagers do not know exactly how high their natural testosterone production can be. It ranges anywhere from 800 to 1300 ng/dl. This is literally the equivalent of taking a 300mg shot of testosterone (steroids) on a weekly basis. Many times adults get on them through Doctor’s supervision because their natural testosterone production is low. This is what is called Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). At a teenager’s age there is not a need to do so as it is very easy to increase size and strength naturally with a good diet and training routine. So many times I hear teens talking about what they want to take or have already done so. What they do not realize is that by using steroids at a young age it will kill your natural testosterone production. This means that when they grow older they will be forced to use them to have a normal testosterone level or they will have a naturally low testosterone. This also means they will not feel as good as they normally would and often not have the stamina that they should have.

Side Effects

Along with all of the good steroids have to offer I am now going to explain some of the side effects which are not by any means pretty. Here are some of the most common ones:

  • Problems with normal liver functions
  • Altered thyroid functions
  • High Blood Pressure and cholesterol levels.
  • Gynecomastia AKA “bitch tits” (a condition where men develop a breast-like tissue which can be similar to that of a female. On the contrary it can cause women to have firmer breast).
  • Possible heart problems
  • Muscle cramps
  • Hair loss
  • Stunt growth during teenage years
  • Hair loss as well as random blotches of hair on the body.
  • Aggressiveness or altered personality.
  • Depression
  • Acne
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Loss of all muscle mass after cessation of use

CAUTION

Taking steroids with the means of increasing athletic performance and without a Doctor’s prescription is illegal and punishable by Federal Law with a penalty of five years in prison in addition to a whole other plethora of fines.
